Nutritional Therapy
Why Nutritional Therapy?
Nutritional Therapy supports health through personalised nutrition and lifestyle optimisation. It is widely accepted that there is a significant positive link between good nutrition and optimal health and wellbeing. Nutritional Therapy helps you reset and find balance, what- ever life stage you are at it's never too late to pave the way for better health outcomes.
Simple yet effective changes to diet and lifestyle can provide support for many health concerns e.g. weight management, low energy and fatigue, poor immunity, digestive and gut health issues, autoimmune conditions, hormonal imbalances, sleep problems and skin conditions. Nutritional Therapy provides practical evidence-based support tailored to your needs.
Nutritional Therapy can be particularly effective in preventing and managing longer term health conditions as well as metabolic health concerns such as weight gain, raised blood pressure, insulin resistance and elevated cholesterol. I have a particular interest in supporting people with pre-diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes and clients on weight loss medication (GLP-1).
What is Nutritional Therapy?
Nutritional Therapy applies nutrition science through food and nutrients, alongside lifestyle habits, to support optimal health and wellbeing, and to help prevent or manage certain health conditions.
A registered nutritional therapist provides personalised nutrition and lifestyle support, viewing a person’s symptoms, concerns, or conditions as part of the whole person rather than in isolation. The human body is clever and complex; its systems are interconnected and influenced by a wide range of internal and external factors. By understanding how these systems interact, a nutritional therapist aims to identify and address the root causes of health issues that may be driving symptoms. For example, digestive health may affect immune function or skin health. The outcome is a highly personalised, safe and effective nutrition and lifestyle plan.
Many people seek out the help of a Nutritional Therapist for actionable nutrition advice having already received a set of medical test results or a diagnosis from a GP or other medical professional.
Nutritional Therapists work alongside medical and other healthcare professionals in an integrative, collaborative and supportive role. Nutritional Therapy does not diagnose or treat illness or disease; nor does it replace medicine or medical care.
Nutritional Therapy uses a range of tools to assess a person's current health. In some cases, further testing may be recommended to assess possible underlying nutritional imbalances, this can provide valuable insights to help guide personalised diet and lifestyle recommendations and to track progress. Some tests can be carried out via your GP. If not, then benefit and cost of any further testing will be discussed taking into account your goals and your budget.
It is essential to work with a fully qualified, registered and insured Nutritional Therapist. Registered Nutritional Therapists are regulated by the CNHC (Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council) meeting the educational and clinical standards of the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). The professional body for registered Nutritional Therapists in the UK is the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT). These registrations ensure the provision of safe and appropriate clinical advice whilst remaining within the scope of practice. To maintain these memberships, continuous professional development is mandatory, ensuring that the Nutritional Therapist stays up to date with the latest scientific research and evidence-based practice.
